FAQs

Find clear answers to the most common questions about EU trade compliance, CN codes, Intrastat reporting and how Strax Europe helps simplify the process.

What does Strax Europe do?

Strax Europe helps companies, accounting firms and trade-service providers manage EU trade compliance.

Powered by the IMEsolved AI platform, we turn supplier invoices and product data into structured information for CN code classification, Intrastat reporting and wider tariff intelligence.

What is IMEsolved?

IMEsolved is the AI platform behind Strax Europe.

It reads supplier invoices, extracts the relevant trade data and classifies products according to the EU Combined Nomenclature. Each classification includes a confidence score and an audit trail.

What is the difference between a CN code and an HS code?

An HS code is the 6-digit international classification used worldwide. A CN code is the EU’s 8-digit extension of the HS code.

Every CN code starts with a valid HS code and adds two EU-specific digits used for customs tariffs and Intrastat reporting.

Who has to file an Intrastat declaration?

Businesses whose intra-EU trade in goods exceeds the reporting threshold set by their country may be required to file an Intrastat declaration for arrivals, dispatches or both.

Thresholds and reporting requirements vary by country, and some countries have removed one trade flow or their thresholds entirely.

Do I still report Intrastat arrivals in Finland in 2026?

No. From statistical year 2026, Finland collects Intrastat data for dispatches only.

Arrivals reporting has ended, and import statistics are reconstructed using export data reported by other EU countries.

What is a supplementary unit and when do I need one?

A supplementary unit is an additional quantity, such as pieces, pairs, litres or square metres, that certain CN codes require alongside net mass.

The CN code determines whether a supplementary unit is needed and which unit must be used. If the supplementary-unit field for the code is blank, only net mass is required.

Is the CN code the same as the code I need for CBAM, EUDR or export controls?

The CN code is the starting point, but it is not always the complete answer.

CBAM and excise requirements are defined by CN codes. EUDR uses HS and CN codes to define its scope. Dual-use export controls use a separate classification system that only has an indicative relationship with the CN.

In each case, having the correct CN classification is an essential first step.

Does Strax Europe replace my accountant or customs broker?

No. Strax Europe helps make classification and reporting faster and more accurate.

Many of our partners are accounting firms, logistics providers and customs brokers that use the platform to support their own clients.
